Prepare your visit: history and landscapes
Located in the communes of Sizun and Commana, Lake Drennec is a dam lake nestled in an exceptional green setting. Created to supply water to a part of the department, it has become over time a must-see site for outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
The landscape here is soothing: calm waters surrounded by forests and meadows, with the tops of the mountains d It is a place that offers a radically different atmosphere from the coast, where serenity reigns supreme. Whether you're coming for sport or relaxation, the lake will seduce you with its preserved natural setting.
Legends and must see on the way
Like every corner of the interior of the Breton lands, the lake has its typical little stories and places of life.
Drennec's clear waters:
It is said that the purity of the lake water is such that it perfectly reflects the skies of the Arreas, creating landscapes changing according to the weather. It is also a high place for fly fishing, a technique that requires patience and observation, a little like the ancient quest stories of the region.
Mandatory must-haves:
- The lake tower: A hiking trail of about 7 km which allows you to make a complete tour of the water body.
- The sandy beaches: Yes, there are beaches in the heart of the land! Ideal for swimming in summer (surveilled in season).
- The nautical center: To begin sailing, kayaking or paddle on water without currents.
My Practical Tips for Families
Lake Drennec is probably one of the most family friendly places in the region thanks to its amenities.
- A pair of sneakers is largely enough to go around the lake, as the trail is very well maintained and has little elevation.
- This is the good news for parents: the trail that goes around the lake is accessible in stroller (all-terrain recommended for more comfort, but a classic stroller goes well on a large part). The Baby carrier remains an alternative if you want to sink a little more into the surrounding woods.
- Gourmet break: Don't miss stopping at the café-restaurant "Au Lac", located on the shore, for a snack or a meal with stunning views of the water.

The ideal spot is the wooden jetty or the beach edge in the early morning, when the mist still rises from the lake, or at the end of the day to capture the orange reflections of the sun setting on the still water. It is a beautiful setting for natural family photos.
What I like:
The Drennec lake is for me the perfect place for a walk in nature without too much walking difficulties; This is ideal for families and bike enthusiasts. Located in the heart of the Arrée Mountains, it allows a total disconnection away from the city, resourcing and soothing. I like to stop there halfway on its small sandy beach, allowing a well deserved break, whether in its crepery with views of the lake or, when it was planned with us, in our adventurer backpacks in known land.
