The Abbey and the Phare:
an iconic duo You can't miss the Saint-Mathieu Abbey of Fine-Terre. Although it is now in ruins, its open-air Gothic arches are magnificent. Right next door stands the proud Lighthouse of Saint-Mathieu. If you don't feel dizzy, climbing its few steps will allow you to enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the Brest harbour and the surrounding islands.
Mandatory must-haves:
- The National Mariners' Memorial at Sea: A gathering place dedicated to the sailors who perished during the wars, visitable during the opening hours.

My Practical Tips for Families
Pointe Saint-Mathieu is an ideal destination for a family outing, provided you can equip yourself according to the chosen activity:
• Mix with hiking shoes if you plan to walk along the steep paths of the GR34. If you stay around the lighthouse and the abbey, a simple pair of sneakers will suffice.
• For parents with young children, the baby carrier is essential to explore coastal trails or climb the lighthouse. The area around the abbey is accessible by stroller, but the paths quickly become stony as soon as it approaches the cliffs.
• Accommodation and break: If the place charmed you, it is possible to sleep in one of the charming hotels located right next door or simply to quench after walking.

Photo gallery: the views not to be missed
The essential cliché is of course the alignment of the lighthouse white and red behind the arches of abbey. For a spectacular photo, wait for the sunset when the stone lights up in orange tones and the beam of the lighthouse starts sweeping the horizon.
What I like:
A small stage of the GR34, the point Saint-Mathieu, is the end of the Brest harbour with its red and white lighthouse that guides the ships. A must-go point in the Finistère, it offers a panorama of the sea as far as you can see. I like to walk on his steep paths while keeping a benevolent eye on my children. Indeed, the paths can be quite close to the edge of the cliff, but it is protected despite everything. On days of great wind, it is very easy to see the waves smashing down the cliffs. There is also an abbey that fell into ruins as time went on, but also a memorial in honour of the sailors who disappeared during the war. Not far from Saint-Mathieu Point, you can visit the 39-45 Memoirs Museum, which is located in a blockhouse.
